According to Nintendo Life, the event was scheduled to run from 28 October through 4 November and included Ghost headwear as a reward. The source material does not include a Nintendo statement on the cancellation.

Nintendo Life says many players who took part in early matches reported the screen regularly freezing, which it argues is a problem in a game as frantic as Air Riders. The outlet reports that Nintendo cancelled the event; the reason is Nintendo Life's reading of the player reports, not a stated Nintendo explanation.

Whether the Ghost headwear or the event will return has not been confirmed.
