The video appeared on Reddit roughly a day after EA confirmed it was shuttering BioWare and killing the studio's next Mass Effect. A burner account claiming EA affiliation posted it. The clip opens with an on-screen disclaimer noting it uses in-engine footage and pre-production assets — standard hedging for a trailer that was never meant to leave the building.
What follows looks like a real reveal. A new protagonist in an N7 trench coat, a conversation scene, and Liara T'Soni back on screen. Kotaku's breakdown flags her return as the headline detail; Polygon notes the footage promised alien variety fans have asked about for years. Push Square reports the trailer is genuine and cites a message attached to it: "We were making a great game."
Corroboration came fast. Journalist Jason Schreier confirmed the leak's authenticity on Bluesky. IGN separately reported that a public-facing trailer for the game had been finished and was ready to go out — meaning EA had marketing primed for a title it canceled before the cameras ever rolled. That detail stings more than the leak itself.
The numbers behind the closure are grim: around 400 jobs cut across EA, and a studio with 31 years of RPG history shut down. BioWare shipped Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age before the run went sideways with Anthem and a rocky Veilguard launch.
There's an awkward silver lining for the people who made those games. Archetype Entertainment, co-founded by former BioWare developers Chad Robertson, James Ohlen, and Drew Karpyshyn, just showed off a reworked male player-character model for its sci-fi RPG Exodus — protagonist Jun Aslan got a new face after player feedback. Same DNA, different logo, still shipping.
Meanwhile the Mass Effect TV series at Prime Video is reportedly still moving forward despite the studio closure. The brand outlives the building. It usually does.
