CD Projekt Red is seeing a renewed interest in Night City, as player numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 reached a recent peak of 187,215 users on Steam. This count marks the largest surge in players since the game received Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion in October 2023.

The primary catalyst for this uptick appears to be the concurrent release of the second season of the anime spin-off, Edgerunners. The success of the series has clearly driven a segment of the player base toward the source material, boosting traffic to the game.

In addition to the media tie-in, the game itself received a substantial update, version 2.5, which contributed to the spike. CD Projekt Red has acknowledged the high engagement, with a lead from the studio recently commenting on the weekend's performance, asking what aspects of the experience they can improve.

This surge in PC player counts is likely mirroring engagement across other digital storefront platforms. The game remains available on the Epic Games Store and GOG, where player interest has also increased following the release of the major content drops.

While the Steam figure is significant, the developer has noted that this momentum is probably being experienced across all platforms where Cyberpunk 2077 is available. This includes consoles such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

The continued healthy player base years after launch demonstrates the lasting appeal of Night City. The combination of high-quality expansion content and successful media adaptation is fueling sustained interest in the RPG.
