GameSpot's retrospective, published after news of BioWare's closing, singles out Sonic Chronicles as the studio's clear outlier. It is BioWare's first and only handheld game.

The studio had already worked with someone else's franchise on a Star Wars game, but Sonic's bright, upbeat cast of Tails, Knuckles and friends sat far from the material its writers were known for. GameSpot says it was not a small side project, and that the studio put together a dedicated team for it.

The retrospective arrives while fans look back on Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
